Education for real life

Education should prepare young people for real life, not just exams.

I didn’t support the final direction on secondary education but I respect the democratic decision that was made. I’m not here to tear it down. I care too much about our young people.

What they need is a system that gives them more than grades. We control our own curriculum, so why is it still stuck in the past?

We need a curriculum that reflects real life. One that helps young people understand money, relationships, the workplace — and themselves. Not everyone is destined for finance, and not everyone thrives in traditional academic settings. We should be creating space for creativity, problem-solving, hands-on learning, not just cramming for exams.

It’s about giving young people options, skills and confidence, no matter what path they choose.
